TERMINAL
entries are generated word by word, on your device, by the ship-mind neural network. no two are ever the same.
SEALED DOOR
ECHO
ECHO checks three things. the memory must come from what they left behind. the voice is judged by the network, which learned each speaker from their logs. every miss costs air and makes ECHO more suspicious.
INTERCOM : OPEN CHANNEL
every reply is computed live. try anything; the wreck has never heard it before.

THE MIND IN THE MACHINE

ECHO is not a chatbot API and not a script. It is a genuine neural network, a ? parameter transformer language model, trained from scratch on the writings of the Vesper's crew, then compressed and embedded whole inside this page. Every word it speaks is computed by matrix arithmetic running in your browser, on your device, right now. Airplane mode will not silence it.

Because ECHO generates rather than retrieves, nothing it says at the terminals exists anywhere until you ask. Two players never read the same wreck.

The sealed doors work the same way in reverse: the network reads YOUR words and computes, from probability alone, whose voice they carry. It was never given keywords to look for. It simply knows, statistically, how the captain sounded, and how the botanist did, because it learned them.

Prove it to yourself. Give the mind any beginning, and watch it weigh what comes next:

architecture : 6-layer causal transformer, 6 heads, 192-dim, 1024-token BPE vocabulary, int8-quantized. trained with gradient descent on an original corpus written for this game. it is small enough to fit in a web page and honest enough to dream badly sometimes; be patient with it, it is three hundred years old.
